The Joint Condensed Matter Seminar (JCMS) series is organised by KTH Royal Insitute of Technology, Nordita, and Stockholm University.
On Thursday, September 24th, 2026 from 14:00 to 14:45 we will host a seminar by Asbjørn Bækgaard Lauritsen from Université Paris-Dauphine
The $v$-representability problem of time-dependent density functional theory
Given a time-dependent one-particle density, we show that there exist a unique external potential such that the Schrödinger evolution with this potential has the prescribed one-particle density. The uniqueness of this potential is the famous Runge–Gross theorem, which however requires unphysical assumptions. In our approach we can treat also singular interactions such as Coulomb. The key insight is to use the translation invariance of the system with no external potential.
